NECSA Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Twelve (12) Months Internship Programme

The Necsa Group, through the Necsa Learning Academy (NLA), and in support of the Chemical Industries Education & Training Authority (CHIETA), for a period of 12 months, will attract and develop bright, ambitious graduates in science and engineering who aspire to build meaningful careers within nuclear sciences and applications in related technology sectors. The WIL programme for qualifying students to gain skills, knowledge, and experience.

The primary goal of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is to enhance students’ employability by developing relevant skills and preparing them for the workplace before graduation. They will receive an opportunity to transform their theoretical knowledge into practical expertise and contribute to real projects that will shape a sustainable future for the nuclear and related technology sectors.

Programme Overview

Purpose: The programme aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and workplace requirements by providing participants with hands-on experience in a professional environment.

  • Develop technical, professional, and interpersonal competencies.

  • Unemployed youth seeking workplace experience.
  • Individuals looking to gain industry-specific skills.

 1. Workplace Placement

  • Participants are placed within organizations for a specified period.
  • Exposure to day-to-day operations and industry practices.

 2. Structured Learning

  • Mentorship and supervision by experienced professionals.
  • Skills development workshops and training sessions.

 3. Performance Monitoring

  • Regular assessments and progress reviews.
  • Feedback from mentors and supervisors.

Requirements

We are seeking highly motivated and talented scientific and engineering graduates who meet the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Relevant Qualifications: B.Eng or BSc, Honours or Master’s degree in the following disciplines: Physics / Computer Science/ Chemistry as well as National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, in Industrial Physics and in Chemistry.
  • Academic Performance: Strong academic record with excellent results in core STEM subjects.
  • Experience: No prior full-time work experience is required. Previous vacation work, internships, or research projects will be beneficial.
  • Technical Skills: Computer literate and familiar with relevant calculational software (e.g. Simulation, or modelling tools).
  • Core Competencies: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills — both written and verbal.
  • Personal Attributes: A collaborative team player with curiosity, adaptability, leadership potential, and a commitment to continuous learning.
