NMISA Temperature Internship Programme – Stipend Range R6 758 – R8 878 per month
The NMISA is a Type 3A Public Entity established in accordance with the Measurement Unit and Measurement Standards Act, No. 18 of 2006 (the Act). The NMISA is mandated by the Act to provide for the use of the international system of units (the SI) and other measurement units in South Africa, to maintain national measurement standards (NMS) and to determine and ensure the comparability of the NMS. Position
The purpose of the internship is to provide a graduate with a practical training within Temperature Metrology. The successful candidate will support the dissemination of traceability from national temperature standards to industry, contributing to measurement accuracy and supporting South African trade and
industry.
Requirements
- BSc Honours degree in Physics or a related technical field
- Knowledge of Programming and laboratory automation as well as Scientific data analysis and simulations
- Strong understanding of Data analysis, uncertainty, and physics-based corrections
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Any understanding in the following would be an added advantage:
o Knowledge of temperature measurement systems
o Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025
o Understanding of the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM)
o Scientific publication record and/or international collaboration Experience - No prior internship or relevant work experience is required for this position (if you have work experience you will not be considered)
Responsibilities
- Assist with calibration of temperature sensors
- Assist with preparing calibration certificates and uncertainty budgets
- Assist with maintaining accurate job records and documentation
- Support compliance with NMISA’s Total Quality Management System (TQMS) and ISO/IEC 17025
- Support laboratory planning, including budgeting and resource inputs
