Twenty Seven (27) Brewing In- Service Trainee Positions at The South African Breweries (SAB)

The Key Purpose of this role is the operation of the brewing processes (Brew house, Cellars, Filtration and Bright Beer Tanks), and associated process areas, the execution of quality control checks and analyses, including problem-solving and supporting the support departments in carrying out asset care and quality activities.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operating equipment in Brewing process areas according to standard operating procedures
  • Constantly reviewing process performance against target, and recording and understanding reasons for deviations
  • Recording waste and movement of product on the appropriate documentation or information systems, and reviewing waste trends to identify problems
  • Carrying out in-depth cleaning, lubrication and inspection of equipment according to autonomous operations and in accordance with the maintenance schedule
  • Identify defective plant, and report these through to CRO for resolution
  • Carrying out the required quality checks and analyses, and recording the results on the appropriate information system
  • The list of quality checks to be executed is contained in the work instructions / SOPs
  • Actively participate in shift meetings, asking questions to test understanding and contributing suggestions. making use of the action log to record issues, problems and improvement opportunities
  • Fully understand the team goals and participate in team goal review sessions
  • Make use of relevant communication media (e.g. operator workstations/team rooms) to stay informed and inform others of issues
  • Complete required hand over to incoming shift team members, ensuring the issues relating to plant performance, quality and maintenance are communicated
  • Where problems occur, use 5Y’s and quick fix routines to identify the possible origin and report these to CRO for resolution

Minimum Requirements:

  • Studying towards a National Diploma in Chemical /Food Science / Mechanical Engineering (3rd year student)
  • Understand Brewing Process and Chemical process of brewing the beer
  • Provided an opportunity to fulfil their experiential training or plant exposure.
  • Monitor process performance
  • Work in teams
  • PC Literacy

South African Breweries (SAB) Technical Trainee: Packaging Production

The purpose of this role is to provide graduates with a strong foundation of technical skills and hands‑on experience, while immersing them in our company culture and guiding principles. Through a structured and rigorous development programme, graduates will gain meaningful exposure, build confidence, and develop the capability required to take on real responsibility. By the end of the programme, successful graduates will be ready to step into a defined area of responsibility and make an immediate impact within the business. The Technical Trainee programme is a structured 18-month programme.

Key Roles and Responsibilities: South African Breweries (SAB) Technical Trainee: Packaging Production

  • The Technical Traineeship is primarily a hands-on, self-study program where the Trainee is expected to gain a full understanding of the theory, principles and operation of Packaging equipment across the Packaging Hall
  • Participation in projects in Packaging aligned to the program requirements and brewery priorities
  • Apply VPO principles (Supply Excellence Principles)
  • Diagnosis of systemic and situational problems and troubleshooting
  • Participation in Packaging team structures including acting roles in identified leadership positions within Packaging
  • Communication of learnings and solutions across various levels of the business

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSC or BTech or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineerin
  • 2 years Packaging Experience
  • Legal work authorization (full citizenship) in the country
  • Geographical mobility within South Africa
