The purpose is to provide structured workplace exposure while allowing participants to develop relevant professional skills. Remuneration is listed as market-related. Eskom does not specify a fixed salary amount in the advertisement.

Available Positions and Qualifications

Applicants should identify which of the two categories matches their completed qualification before applying.

1. Graduate in Training – Five Positions

Duties and Training Opportunities

Eskom’s advertisement states that successful candidates will receive institutionalised and on-the-job training. It does not provide a detailed list of daily duties for each of the six positions. The vacancy does, however, identify the skills and competencies expected of candidates. These include communication, computer literacy, teamwork, professionalism and the ability to work independently.

Depending on the assigned role, the training environment may provide an opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a professional setting. Applicants should note that the exact duties and responsibilities will depend on the position and the work assigned by Eskom.

Computer Literacy

Computer literacy is listed as a required skill. Applicants should be comfortable using computers and relevant digital tools in a professional environment.

Teamwork and Leadership

The advertisement identifies teamwork, motivating teams, coaching, mentoring and development under leadership-related competencies. Candidates should be ready to collaborate with colleagues and contribute positively to a team.

Professionalism and Integrity

Eskom highlights integrity, professionalism, honesty and trustworthiness as behavioural competencies. Applicants should demonstrate these qualities in their conduct and approach to workplace responsibilities.

Accuracy and Independent Working

The ability to work independently with little supervision and maintain accuracy is also listed. Candidates should be prepared to complete assigned tasks carefully and take responsibility for their work.

Knowledge of Policies and Procedures

The advertisement identifies knowledge of Eskom’s policies and procedures as a relevant competency. Successful candidates will need to understand and follow the organisation’s workplace processes.

Why Consider an Eskom Graduate Internship?

Entering the job market can be challenging for graduates who have qualifications but limited professional experience. A structured training opportunity can help bridge the gap between academic learning and the expectations of a workplace.

This Eskom programme offers successful applicants institutionalised and on-the-job training. It may be especially relevant to graduates seeking exposure in business, marketing, communications, graphic design or IT-related environments. Applicants should remember that an internship or graduate training opportunity does not automatically guarantee permanent employment after completion. Its value lies in the practical exposure and professional development provided during the programme.

Application Tips for Job Seekers

Before applying, take a few minutes to check the following:

  • Confirm your qualification: Make sure it matches the specific requirements for either the Graduate in Training or Learner Intern position.
  • Update your CV: Clearly state your qualification, institution, completion status, relevant projects and practical skills.
  • Highlight relevant strengths: Include examples of communication, teamwork, computer literacy, accuracy and independent work where applicable.
  • Check your personal information: Ensure your contact details and application information are accurate.

Position: Internship: Library and Information Services
Department: Community Development
Branch: Library and Information Services
Duration: Not exceeding 18 months

City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services Internship 2026

The City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services Internship 2026 is an opportunity for qualifying youth in the Johannesburg community who are looking to gain practical workplace experience in the library and information services environment.

The internship is offered by the City of Johannesburg’s Community Development Department, within the Library and Information Services Branch. The programme is intended to provide work-based exposure to students and young people who need experiential training as part of their academic or professional development. According to the official vacancy circular, the internship is available for a period not exceeding 18 months and is specifically open to qualifying youth in the Johannesburg community who have not previously participated in an internship programme.

Job Overview

The Internship: Library and Information Services position involves assisting librarians with the delivery of direct library and information services to members of the public.

The successful intern will also gain exposure to the administrative and operational side of running a library. This makes the opportunity particularly relevant to graduates and students who have studied library and information-related disciplines, records management, archives, information technology, or information and knowledge management. The City of Johannesburg states that its internship programme is designed to address the need for students to obtain on-the-job exposure, whether as a prerequisite for an academic qualification or as experiential training after completing a qualification.

Internship Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will assist the Senior Librarian or Librarian with the day-to-day provision of library and information services. Key responsibilities and learning activities include:

  • Assisting with daily administrative activities within the library.
  • Supporting the daily operational tasks of the library.
  • Assisting with the delivery of library and information services to the public.
  • Providing support to library staff where required.
  • Gaining practical exposure to library administration and operations.
  • Applying computer and information-related skills in a working environment.
  • Supporting activities associated with information management and digitalisation.

The position provides practical workplace exposure rather than being limited to classroom-based learning.

Requirements for the City of Johannesburg Internship

Applicants should carefully check the requirements before submitting an application. The official vacancy circular lists the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 or NQF Level 4.
  • A tertiary qualification in one of the relevant fields:
    • Library and Information qualification
    • Records Management and Archives
    • Information Technology
    • Information and Knowledge Management
  • Computer literacy.
  • Applicants must not have previously participated in the internship programme.
  • Applicants must be able to work 40 hours per week, including weekends.
  • The opportunity is open to youth in the Johannesburg community.
  • Only City of Johannesburg residents will be considered.

Applicants should therefore make sure that their qualifications and residential status meet the requirements before applying.

Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is particularly suited to young people in Johannesburg who have completed, or are pursuing the relevant tertiary qualification and need practical experience. It may be worth considering for graduates who have struggled to find an entry-level opportunity because the programme provides exposure to an actual municipal working environment. However, previous participation in the programme will result in an applicant not being considered. The vacancy is also specifically limited to youth in the Johannesburg community, with only City of Johannesburg residents being considered.

Skills and Competencies

The City of Johannesburg identifies several competencies that are important for this internship.

Computer Skills

Computer literacy is a stated minimum requirement. Interns will work in an environment where technology and information management form an important part of library operations.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

The role involves assisting with services provided directly to members of the public. Good communication and interpersonal skills can therefore help an intern interact professionally with library users and colleagues.

Literacy and Numeracy

The vacancy requires the appropriate standard of literacy and numeracy, together with general knowledge and computer literacy.

Knowledge Management and Digitalisation

The circular also identifies knowledge management and Information Technology (digitalisation) as core competencies. These areas are increasingly relevant as libraries expand beyond traditional book-lending services into digital information and learning support.

What Can Interns Gain From This Opportunity?

The internship can provide useful exposure to the practical side of library and information services.

The City of Johannesburg’s Library and Information Services Directorate describes its libraries as centres supporting education, lifelong learning and intellectual development. Its services include access to information resources, literacy programmes, reading development, digital literacy and electronic information services.

For a young graduate, exposure to this environment can help build workplace experience while developing practical administrative, communication, information management and technology-related skills.

Important Application Information

Applications for this internship must be submitted online. The City of Johannesburg specifically states that only online applications will be considered. Applicants are required to complete the online job application and attach the relevant documentation, including:

  • Certified qualification/s
  • Identity document
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)

Applicants are advised to use Google Chrome when applying for City of Johannesburg positions. The advertisement also makes it clear that the listed contact email address is for enquiries only. Applications, CVs, qualifications or supporting documents sent by email will not be accepted or considered.

Application Deadline

The closing date for the City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services Internship is Thursday, 15 October 2026. Applicants should avoid waiting until the final day to submit their applications. It is advisable to complete the application early, check that the required documents are attached and ensure that all information entered on the application form is accurate. The City of Johannesburg states that applicants who do not receive notification of appointment or a response within six weeks of the closing date should accept that their application was unsuccessful.

About the City of Johannesburg

The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality provides municipal services and programmes to communities across Johannesburg. Its Library and Information Services Directorate forms part of the City’s Community Development function.

The City’s public libraries serve as hubs for education and provide residents with access to books, magazines, audio-visual material and information resources. Library services also include literacy activities, storytelling, classroom support, lectures, exhibitions and community programmes.

The Library and Information Services Directorate also supports digital literacy and access to electronic information. The City describes its eLearning services as providing access to computers, internet resources, digital literacy activities and electronic learning materials through selected libraries. This makes the internship relevant to young people interested in the intersection of libraries, information management, technology, education and community development.

How to Apply

Eligible applicants should submit their applications online before the 15 October 2026 deadline. Applicants should make sure that the required CV, certified qualifications and ID are ready before starting the online application. Applications submitted by email will not be accepted. About The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) South Africa

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) is the official regulator of the country’s electronic communications, broadcasting and postal-services sectors. It was established under the ICASA Act of 2000 after the functions of the former Independent Broadcasting Authority and South African Telecommunications Regulatory Authority were combined. ICASA operates in the public interest and aims to promote accessible, affordable and good-quality communications services for South Africans.

One of ICASA’s main responsibilities is issuing licences to telecommunications companies, broadcasters and postal-service providers. The regulator develops industry regulations, sets licence conditions, monitors compliance and may take enforcement action when licensees fail to meet their obligations. ICASA also plans, controls and manages South Africa’s radio-frequency spectrum, which is essential for mobile networks, television, radio, wireless broadband and other communication services.

ICASA also protects consumers and provides a channel for complaints about poor service, unfair business practices, billing problems and other issues involving regulated service providers. It can hear and decide disputes and complaints brought by members of the public or industry participants against licensees. Through this role, ICASA helps support competition, fair treatment, service quality and the broader development of South Africa’s communications industry.

Reports To: Professional Development Manager/ Centre of Excellence Manager

On-sire reporting: Principal

Purpose of Role:

SPARK Schools teachers drive scholar achievement by maintaining high expectations for classroom culture, behavior and  academic growth for all scholars. A SPARK Schools Trainee is a versatile, mission-driven professional who is deployed across primary contexts to maintain instructional continuity during planned and unplanned staff absences. This role requires the ability to teach across multiple subjects and grade levels with confidence, adapt to different school cultures quickly and hold high expectations for scholar behaviour and achievement from the first moment of deployment.

  • The Trainee is not assigned to a single school. They are a network asset, allocated by the Support Office based on real-time need across the portfolio.
  • Deployment may be same-day, next-day, or advance-planned. The educator must be prepared to travel to any school in the network at short notice.
  • This role sits within the Centre of Excellence pipeline and may transition into a permanent school-based role upon mutual agreement.

This is not a passive cover role. The Locum Generalist Educator is expected to deliver prepared lesson plans, manage classrooms with authority and care and integrate into the existing school team as a functional, contributing member — even on short-term engagements.

  • Attend professional development sessions and training on weekdays, weekends or school holidays, if applicable.
  • Attend scheduled professional development sessions during placement periods as directed
  • Actively engage with feedback from school leaders and CoE coaches and implement changes promptly
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and a willingness to be trained across different school models and grade phases
  • Be trained progressively across all school contexts in the portfolio — building a deep understanding of each school’s culture, instructional model, and scholar population so that each deployment is more effective than the last
  • Attend all scheduled CoE professional development sessions, workshops, and learning sprints during non-deployment periods

Mobility, Deployment and Logistics:

The Locum Educator’s effectiveness is directly dependent on their ability to be where they are needed, when they are needed — without logistical constraints becoming an obstacle to the school network.

Transport Requirements

  • Must own or have reliable, exclusive access to a roadworthy private motor vehicle
  • Must be willing and able to travel to any school within the network’s portfolio, including schools located across different districts and municipalities
  • Must be available to travel at short notice.  Same-morning deployment notifications are standard and the educator must be ready to arrive at an assigned school within a reasonable travel window
  • Must factor commute time into their own availability planning and communicate any travel constraints to the Support Office proactively, not reactively

Deployment Flexibility

  • Available with deployments ranging from a single day to an extended multi-week placement
  • Prepared to step into any role at or at the level of educator, including: classroom teacher, blended learning facilitator, co-teacher, small group tutor, experience lab TA, homework support facilitator or exam invigilator
