About The South African Breweries (SAB)
The South African Breweries (SAB) is the country’s largest beer producer, capturing an estimated 87% of the national beer market. Founded in 1895, it operates 7 breweries and 40 depots. Since 2016, it has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the global beverage giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev).
The company is deeply intertwined with South Africa’s economy and agricultural sector, sourcing 97% of its raw ingredients locally and supporting local barley and agricultural initiatives. Furthermore, SAB operates sustainability programs like their water-restoration projects and community-upliftment campaigns like the Bread of the Nation initiative, which turns brewing spent-grain into food for vulnerable communities.
