The Necsa Group, through the Necsa Learning Academy (NLA), and in support of the Chemical Industries Education & Training Authority (CHIETA), for a period of 12 months, will attract and develop bright, ambitious graduates in science and engineering who aspire to build meaningful careers within nuclear sciences and applications in related technology sectors. The WIL programme for qualifying students to gain skills, knowledge, and experience.

The primary goal of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is to enhance students’ employability by developing relevant skills and preparing them for the workplace before graduation. They will receive an opportunity to transform their theoretical knowledge into practical expertise and contribute to real projects that will shape a sustainable future for the nuclear and related technology sectors.

Requirements

We are seeking highly motivated and talented scientific and engineering graduates who meet the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Relevant Qualifications: B.Eng or BSc, Honours or Master’s degree in the following disciplines: Physics / Computer Science/ Chemistry as well as National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, in Industrial Physics and in Chemistry.
  • Academic Performance: Strong academic record with excellent results in core STEM subjects.
  • Experience: No prior full-time work experience is required. Previous vacation work, internships, or research projects will be beneficial.
  • Technical Skills: Computer literate and familiar with relevant calculational software (e.g. Simulation, or modelling tools).
  • Core Competencies: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills — both written and verbal.
  • Personal Attributes: A collaborative team player with curiosity, adaptability, leadership potential, and a commitment to continuous learning.

A vacancy currently exists for Security Guard at Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site. The successful candidate will have to be a highly motivated individual with the necessary practical skills and experience to assist with Security functions & operations in the park and will report to the Ranger Corporal and Section Ranger.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 coupled with 2-year experience as a Security Guard.

  • Code C1 drivers’ licence plus PDP will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Law enforcement that will include participating in regular entries and exits to prevent poaching, unauthorised access and movement within the park as well as keeping vehicle register for everyone entering and exiting the park.
  • Permits authorised persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits.
  • Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensure that authorised removal of property is conducted within appropriate client requirements.
  • Assist customers, employees, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Call Police, Section Ranger or Corporal Ranger or Working for Fire in case of fire or unauthorised persons or suspicious movements of vehicles.
  • Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
  • Transporting or Posting security guards in the workstations
  • Guidance to visiting community groups, students, and learners before entering the park.
  • Efficient and effectively ensure area integrity.
  • Assist in driving the security vehicle to response in case of break down in and around the park for our Tourists.
  • Perform any delegated duties.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

The scope of work includes coordination, facilitation and mentoring of the Fix My Food Advocates during the ongoing campaign of advocating for healthier food environments for children. This also includes the development of toolkits with young people and overall guidance during the implementation of the campaign.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting FMF advocates in the youth-led planning, designing, implementation and evaluation of the campaign strategy and workplan, including SMART objectives, activities, milestones, defined roles and responsibilities, slogan campaign, and a defined digital advertising strategy.
  2. Facilitating the development of a package of NCD prevention and food environments campaign toolkit in various formats, which are co-designed by FMF youth advocates (social media titles, blog posts, scripts for radio and video, surveys or quizzes, press releases etc.), and recommend to UNICEF targeted boosting using multiple platforms to reach 1,500,000 youths.
  3. Providing mentoring and coaching sessions to the FMF youth advocates through workshops and online sessions to co-create and deliver compelling, youth-leading storytelling and digital advocacy content for the campaign. – campaign toolkit, training young people, digital advocacy.
  4. Together with FMF advocates, amplify the FMF youth-led campaign through outreach and engagement with various stakeholders, volunteers’ networks, other campus clubs, including optimizing key moments such as health calendar days (e.g. National Nutrition week, World Obesity Day, NCDs related events, etc.), including leveraging various existing platforms targeting young people and engagements with policy makers.
  5. Strengthening linkages of the FMF youth advocates and the Department of Basic Education Nutrition School ambassadors’ initiatives with active involvement of the FMF Advocates to advocate for better school food environment and healthy lifestyles.
  6. Liaise with relevant UNICEF staff to keep the FMF youth campaign website up to date with new materials and contents.
  7. Within the campaign plan, develop a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation plan including quantitative and qualitative research tools for collection of baselines and endline data to assess the reach and effectiveness of the campaign and the reach of the activities conducted.
  8. Conducting evaluations of key activities based on the campaign objectives.
  9. Preparing a comprehensive written report of the process, achievements, reach and lessons learned and present final evaluation and results to UNICEF.
  10. Compiling policy briefs and case study on the campaign for advocacy purposes and sharing the learnings.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in: Nutrition, Public Health, Behavioral Health Sciences, Psychology, sociology, Health Education and Promotion, Social Sciences or another related field.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years or more of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge in social and behavior change, and community engagement.
  • Previous experience with nutrition and food systems or health promotion.
  • Experience in engaging and working with young people.

Language Requirements:

  • Strong command of English – both written and spoken.

SADC Secretariat is currently recruiting  6 interns/ graduates in different Directorates/Units. The programme is for a period of 3-12 months and WIL Programme is aimed at  providing  participants with a comprehensive practical experience in a setting where learning/exposure is the primary objective of the experience. The Secretariat is therefore, inviting qualified citizens of the SADC Member States to apply for the following internship opportunities tenable at its Headquarters in Gaborone. Botswana and at SADC Plant Genetic Resource Centre in Lusaka, Zambia.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 

  • (i) be nationals of SADC Member States
  • (ii)  be under the age of 52 years;
  • (iii) be enrolled or graduated at/from a registered and accredited institution of higher learning        studying towards or attained an undergraduate or post graduate qualification. 
  • (iv) possess the highest standard of moral conduct and intergrity;
  • (v) has not been convicted of a crime
  • (vii)     have the right to reside and work in the host country where SADC Institutions are housed for the full duration of the WIL experience. The SADC Secretariat and its Institutions shall not assist in applying for visas, but shall provide, where necessary documentary evidence required for obtaining visa under host country Immigration rules.

Student/trainee may qualify for internship on condition it is an integral part of such student/trainee’s academic programme and counts for compulsory continuous assessment prior to graduation. A graduate must have passed and graduated at least a year before enrolment into the SADC WIL programme. Certified copies of both the academic record and qualification must be provided.

FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS 

The SADC Secretariat will cover the return ticket from and to Member State of each intern/graduate. The Secretariat will also  provide a monthly stipend of US$250.00 per  intern/graduate. Member States are required to cover cost for accommodation in the host country, medical/life cover and visa application.

TENURE OF APPOINTMENT

Internship opportunity shall be for a period of not less than three (3) months while graduate opportunity shall be for a fixed period of not less than twelve (12) months.

  1. Student/trainee (intern) should have a recommendation letter from the institution of higher learning.
  2. Undergraduate or postgraduate should have certified copies of qualification and an academic record bearing the institution’s official seal.
  3. Cover letter stating the internship/graduate stream that you want to be considered for and describe how your course/qualification, experience and competencies are relevant to the WIL opportunity;
  4.  Updated Curriculum vitae;
