The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Transport Department has the following Internship opportunity available for a period NOT exceeding eighteen (18) months.

An internship programme is an intervention by the City of Johannesburg to address the growing demand by a tertiary institution for students to undergo on-the-job exposure, as a pre-requisite to acquire an academic qualification or as a requirement after the acquisition of academic qualification to obtain experiential training. The City is committed to providing work-based training for students.

  • This internship opportunity is applicable to youth in the Johannesburg communities, who qualifies
    for this internship and have never participated in an internship programme before.
  • This Vacancy is open to all qualifying STUDENTS in the Johannesburg Community for a
    period not exceeding 18 months

DESIGNATION: Internship: Transport Systems Management
REMUNERATION: (Qualification completed with min 360 credits): R10 109,86 pm (Basic Salary, no benefits) OR (Enrolled as a student) : R3 500,00 pm (Basic salary, no benefits)
LOCATION: 75 Helen Joseph Street, Old Mutual Building, Johannesburg

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 at NQF level 4 with at least 1st year completed (2 semesters complete) of the Diploma / Degree in Civil Engineering or Town and Regional Planning or Transport Management.
  • Only City of Joburg residents will be considered.
    PRIMARY FUNCTION: The internships affords the interns an opportunity to gain skills in transport planning and development planning, and the implementation of transport policy/regulations.
    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: Develop and manage strategies to improve the overall performance of the transportation system, which includes, amongst others, evaluation of traffic impact studies that will
    generate more than 1500 vehicle trips;
  • Assist in the development of nodal transport plans in the CoJ;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of transport policy, eg Security Access Restrictions Policy
  • Assist with the Stakeholder Consultation processes of projects/programs run by the unit

LEADING COMPETENCIES:

  • Computer literacy (MS Office applications) and email.
  • Organising skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, listening and written;
  • Time management and working under pressure.
    CORE COMPETENCIES: Knowledge of basic Traffic Engineering Theory, Development Planning;
  • Knowledge of Technical Report writing;

Designation: Internship: Quantity Surveyor – Internship Opportunity

Remuneration: (Qualification completed with min 360 credits): R10 109,86 pm (Basic Salary, no benefits)
Location: 75 Helen Joseph Street, Old Mutual Building, or in any region where the City is implementing a Public Transport Infrastructure Programme

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Matric/Grade 12 Certificate;
  • B Degree in Quantity Surveying at NQF level 7;
  • No experience;
  • Only City of Joburg residents will be considered.
    Primary Function: Prepare and review quantities for Transport Infrastructure programmes (Taxi Ranks,
    BRT stations, Roadways, Non-Motorised Transport Facilities, maintenance, etc.) Measurement of quantities when Interim Payment Certificates are prepared, and monitoring invoices with regard to claims from the Implementing Agent.

  • Progress – deliverables are being completed within specified timelines;
  • Cost – deliverables are being completed within budget;
  • Performance (Value) – progress is being earned for the expected cost;
  • Risk – to proactively manage foreseen project risks, as and when necessary.
