The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is Hiring for a Research Assistant at its Animal Production Center

The ARC seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position(s) at Animal Production (ARC-AP), Irene, Gauteng.

Job Description

  • Assist with routine analysis of chemical nature.
  • Prepare reagents and chemicals used for routine analysis.
  • Clean utensils and glassware used for routine analytical determination.
  • Correctly apply techniques within specified guidelines.
  • Timeously complete technical tasks according to set quality and accreditation standards.
  • Efficiently plan and schedule analytical service in accordance with given instructions.
  • Cost–effective stock control according to regulation.
  • Timeous reporting of malfunctioning equipment’s.
  • Maintain and ensure that equipment’s are in working order and in compliance with applicable quality standards.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean laboratory in general.
  • Assist in maintaining the accreditation status, ISO/IEC 17025:2017, of the laboratory.
  • Maintain Occupational and Health, Safety in the laboratory according to Good Laboratory Practice.
  • Assist with sample reception and monthly mixing of calibration standards.

Job Requirements

  • Grade 12 with 3 years relevant experience.
  • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry will be an added advantage.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skilled to work as part of the team as well as independently.
  • The ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in ISO 17025 and working in an accredited laboratory will be an advantage.
  • Skilled to work as part of the team as well as independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite will be an added advantage.
  • In possession of a valid SA driver’s license will be an added advantage.

Competitive remuneration package will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities, and the stature of the position. The appointment will be subject to a positive security clearance and preference will be given to designated groups in terms of the ARC Employment Equity Plan. Permanent appointments are subject to six (6) months’ probation period.
