About Nedbank South Africa

Nedbank South Africa is part of Nedbank Group, one of the largest financial services groups in Africa. The group serves almost 8 million clients and offers retail banking, business banking, corporate and investment banking, insurance, asset management and wealth management services. Nedbank’s head office is in Sandton, Johannesburg, and the group operates across South Africa and several other African markets.

Nedbank’s history dates back to the 19th century. Its heritage can be traced to the Cape of Good Hope Savings Bank Society, established in 1831, and the first South African branch of the Nederlandsche Bank en Credietvereeniging, which opened in Pretoria in 1888. Over time, Nedbank developed into one of South Africa’s leading universal banks, serving individuals, businesses, corporates and public-sector clients.

The group operates through four main business clusters: Nedbank Personal and Private Banking, Nedbank Business and Commercial Banking, Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking, and Nedbank Africa Regions. Personal customers can access transactional accounts, savings, credit cards, home loans, vehicle finance, insurance and investment products. Businesses can access funding, payment solutions, transactional banking, card services, fleet management and advisory support.

Nedbank is also known for its focus on sustainability and green finance. It was the first South African commercial bank to launch a green bond on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, raising R1.7 billion for solar and renewable-energy projects. The bank is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and supports renewable energy, green buildings, agriculture, water and affordable housing.

Career opportunities at Nedbank include roles in banking, finance, risk, compliance, technology, cybersecurity, data analytics, marketing, human resources, legal services and customer care. The bank also offers graduate programmes, internships and learnerships for young South Africans. Nedbank’s combination of strong digital banking, business support and sustainability focus makes it an important player in South Africa’s financial sector.
